Abergavenny is known as the ‘Gateway to Wales’, and is surrounded by two mountains: the Blorenge and the Sugarloaf, and five hills. Abergavenny is situated at the border to The Brecon Beacons National Park and nearby Black Mountains, making our town an ideal base for walkers and hikers or for those simply seeking stunning countryside to enjoy. The Marches Way, Beacons Way and Usk Valley Walk, all pass through the town. Abergavenny has been awarded ‘Walkers are Welcome’ status and is recognised as a top walking destination. Abergavenny is situated on the River Gavenny and the River Usk, making fishing a popular pastime. It is also close to the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, which offers tranquil walks and beautiful scenery.

The town itself has plenty to offer visitors, including a bustling Market, Abergavenny Castle and Museum (located just a stone’s throw from the Kings Arms) the Borough Theatre and Melville Theatre, and a local independent Cinema. We have a thriving shopping centre, with plenty of independent shops that are unique to Abergavenny.
In September each year, Abergavenny plays host to the Abergavenny Food Festival and attracts thousands of visitors and the brightest stars of the culinary world. During the Festival, the town is transformed into a foodie paradise with a busy programme of events, talks and demonstrations as well as hundreds of stalls and marquees where producers from all over Wales and the UK come to showcase their food and produce.
Discover GARDENS & PARKS
Bailey Park is located in the centre of town and has a children’s play area. It is also home to Abergavenny Rugby Club.
Linda Vista Gardens are formal landscape gardens located just moments from The Kings Arms Hotel. They first opened in 1843 and are home to many rare orchids and plants. From the gardens, visitors can enjoy beautiful views across Castle Meadows to the Blorenge.
Castle Meadows is situated on the River Usk, approximately 5 minutes walk from The Kings Arms. On a sunny day, you can watch handgliders and paragliders landing from their descent from the top of the Blorenge.
